Are you suffering from anaemia?

Do you feel stressed out almost 24 hours of the day?

If you have one of the above symptoms, it should not be surprise for many of you. As per recent statistics, more than 50 percent of women in India (age 15-49) are anaemic. Not only that, almost one out of six women in India is obese.

With so much of time constraints and responsibilities, women in India juggle between their work, household chores and children in their families. It is not at all surprising that in a survey by Nielsen, Indian women are the most stressed out in the world: 87% of women feel stressed out most of the time as compared to 53% in America. Is there anything that we can do to avoid this at all considering the amount of responsibilities that we have to juggle and the stress that we face?

Yes there are simple ways to overcome our own inhibitions of becoming healthy in our life.

Before I get into the solution mode, let’s answer few more questions?

If the answer is yes, then you should continue to read further. If answer is no, then I would seriously ask yourself to look at how you have become over the years – Addicted to depression and stress?

Moving on, the first question that comes to mind is why exercise is important?

We all know that exercise can help us prevent diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes and heart diseases but what is not known to many is that it decreases the stress hormones such as cortisol and increases endorphins which are body’s natural chemical for good mood and leads to feelings of euphoria and wellbeing.

The question that arises is how do I incorporate exercise in my busy schedule?

30 minutes is all you need. Did you know that a workout for 30 minutes 5 days a week is sufficient to eliminate the side effects of inactive and sedentary lifestyle? So how do you find that 30 minutes..

Its’ simple.

  • Walk to the grocery store nearby in the morning to get your vegetables or milk.
  • Take your child to a walk  for 10 minutes in the morning or evening.
  • Park you vehicle in the last row of the parking lot and walk for 5 minutes to reach to your office. Take stairs or walk for 10 minutes during your lunch break or tea break.
  • Walk in the room while you are on phone.
  • Get up 15 minutes early in the morning and go for a walk. (Did you now that walking for 15 minutes at a brisk pace at 4 mph can burn the same amount of calories as jogging for the same distance?)

By simply adding movement in your lifestyle (just 30 minutes) can increase your fitness and your mood. Start with the basic and then if you can find time, you can join a program or become more active.  It might talk 12-14 weeks to see measurable benefits in your body but slowly and slowly you should notice a change in your mood and health. So remember to be consistent in your habit of brisk walking.

The secret of beauty does not lie in the beauty products which make you feel beautiful externally but if you really have to feel beautiful from the inside, exercise is the first step. The best part is that 30 minutes of exercise and the cost that it has (almost zero) can give you the benefits that can save you and your family thousands of rupees later and not to mention the pleasure to be around an energetic member like you in the household.

As Mahatma Gandhi once said: “It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver. Simply because he who has health will have hope and will be able to enjoy a long happy life. Happy Women’s day to you all and I hope you will be able to take out 30 minutes in your schedule to gift yourself for being such a wonderful person that you are.

It is advisable to consult a doctor before starting any exercise program. This is important if you have been physically inactive for a long period, if you are pregnant or if you have health problems.
